Woollen dolman made to wear over an early 1870s style gown. There were numerous different names for outer wear at this time, 

 

Kay dressed in late 1860s dress with her two sons. This was the day that the eldest found the water hose and hosed down the youngest.

 


 

but in general a dolman is a garment with an uneven hem line. This garment has a quilted lining.
